What are some good video games for beginners? I need something fun but will get someone in the right direction?

I’m 14 years old and i love video games. i wanna hang out with my dad more and he seems like video games but he always can never get it. it’d be fine but it’s not very fun to play halo when your opponent can’t figure out how to walk. it’d really be appreciated if i would know what to do. should i just get him to play different or more? some tips? or is it the game?

I’ve heard about the NGP but it doesn’ come out untill the holidays and its gonna be like 300 dollars. I’ve looked at the iphone and ipod touch but they don’t have a lot of good games like Star wars battlefront 2. I’ve had the orginal psp but it only had one analog stick. The DS has terrible graphics. I know I’ve elimenated all options but which one is the best?
