ok, if compared to other games you can play, i wouldn’t give this game 5 out of 5 stars, but as a Turn-based strategy (TBS) game it is absolutely a 5.

If you’ve NEVER played a TBS game, this is a perfect introduction (not too complex a la Jeanne D’Arc and not too simple a la Squad Command).

If you’ve ever played Jeanne D’Arc, Field Commander, Warhammer Squad Command, or Clancy’s Endwar for PSP, and loved all of these games, then you will love this game. It’s not perfect, but it will satisfy your craving for a good strategy game.

It’s humans in mechs vs. Aliens, your army against their army as you work your way through a map towards a primary and secondary objective. To keep things interesting and fun, each mission also contains a secret objective.

    Pros

    1. Lots of missions! (30!)

    2. Lots of easy to use customizable options for weapons, armor, defense, movement, etc.

    3. There is a skirmish mode with about 8 more different maps, but they are more like mini-games as opposed to real strategic battles.

    4. No grinding! May have to replay missions once or twice but only to play it without losing a mech (cuz when u lose a mech in battle you have to buy another to replace), OR replay to complete secret objective. I thought there would be a lot of grinding to earn more “credits” and “resource” points for tech upgrades, but don’t need to at all.

    5. There is online/multiplayer play, but i’ve never played it.

    Cons

    1. No grid – some TBS players hate not seeing the grid

    2. There is an option to skip the animations of battle during attacks to speed the game up, but it still doesn’t skip the animations, which is weird.

    3. Poor story & narrative, terrible voice-acting (but I don’t play these games for story)

    4. On many maps, members of your army are indistinguishable from the enemy, it’s tough to see who is who. Developers should have made it more clear on maps who is on your side and who is the enemy. Use of color schemes makes it challenging so you always have to check to make sure you are highlighting the right guy.

    5. Can’t Undo a movement (very annoying) once you make it.

    6. I experienced game freezes for mission 24 and 20, but saving a lot solved that problem.

It’s a great TBS for introductory players, and a solid entry for more experienced TBS players craving a fix.

    Rating: 5 / 5
